- You need 1/2 kg of Sardines/mathi
- It’s 1/2 cup of Freshly grated coconut
- It’s 1 of Raw mango , cut into small cubes
- Prepare 8-10 of Shallots , thinly sliced
- It’s 3 of Green chilies , finely chopped
- You need 4 of Garlic pods
- Prepare 1/4 tsp of Cumin seeds
- You need 1/4 tsp of Mustard seeds
- Prepare 1 tsp of Tamarind paste
- You need 1 sprig of Curry leaves
- Prepare To taste of Salt
- You need As needed of Oil
- It’s As needed of Water
Step to make Kerala Style Sardines In Coconut Gravy:
- Clean wash the sardine Cut them into medium piece Marinate the fish with turmeric powder and salt and leave it aside for 10 min
- In a blender, add the grated coconut, cumin seeds, garlic pods, and half of the curry leave Grind it into a coarse paste.
- Heat oil in claypot or manchatti. Splutter mustard and curry leave Add the sliced shallots and green chilie Saute for 1-2 mins until they are translucent and golden. Add the marinated fish, mango pieces, and 1/2 cup of Cover with a lid and cook on medium flame for 10-15 min
- Now add the coconut paste, tamarind juice, and salt. Cook for another 10 mins until the sardines are cooked well and the water has evaporated. Remove from flame and serve hot with rice.
