The Ingredients needed to make Shrimp/Prawn Biryani

#mycookbook:

  1. Prepare of For Marination
  2. You need 400 g of prawns
  3. It’s 1 teaspoon of lime juice
  4. It’s 1 teaspoon of ginger-garlic paste
  5. Prepare 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder
  6. It’s 1/2 teaspoon of red chilli powder
  7. Prepare 1 teaspoon of coriander powder
  8. Prepare 1 pinch of salt
  9. Prepare of For Gravy
  10. Prepare 1 inch of piece of cinnamon stick
  11. You need 3-4 of cloves
  12. It’s 1 of bay leaf
  13. You need 1 of star spice
  14. You need 1/2 of onion finely chopped
  15. It’s 1 of small - medium sized tomato
  16. Prepare 1 tablespoon of chopped cilantro leaves
  17. Prepare 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder
  18. You need 1/2 teaspoon of red chilli powder
  19. You need 1 teaspoon of coriander powder
  20. Prepare of Salt as per taste
  21. It’s 1 cup of water
  22. It’s 3 tablespoons of cooking oil
  23. Prepare of For the rice
  24. You need 1 1/2 cups of basmati rice
  25. You need 3 cups of water
  26. You need 1 inch of cinnamon stick
  27. Prepare 2-3 of cloves
  28. It’s 1 of bay leaf
  29. It’s 1 of star spice
  30. Prepare 1 tablespoon of oil
  31. Prepare of Salt as per taste
  32. It’s of For Garnishing
  33. Prepare 1 tablespoon of chopped cilantro leaves
  34. It’s of sliced Caramelised onion
  35. It’s of Green and yellow food colour(optional)
Step to make Shrimp/Prawn Biryani

#mycookbook:

  1. Peel,devein and wash the shrimp.
  2. Marinate the shrimp with all ingredients mentioned above under ‘marination’.
  3. Cover/wrap it with cling wrap and place it in the fridge.
  4. Soak 1 1/2 cups of basmati rice for about 20-30 minute
  5. Chop the tomato roughly and blend it into a fine paste. I added little bit of cilantro leaves which is totally optional.
  6. Cut 1 big onion into half. Chop half of it finely. And chop the other half into thin slice
  7. Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a pan and sauté the sliced onions till they get caramelised. Do not over brown them.
  8. Remove the caramelised onion and keep them aside for garnishing.
  9. Heat a tablespoon of oil in a deep wok and add the whole spices mentioned under ‘the rice’
  10. Add 3 cups of water and bring it to a boil
  11. Add in the soaked and drained rice and cook till the water gets absorbed and the rice gets cooked.
  12. Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in the same pan used for sautéing the onion slices, and add the whole spices mentioned under ‘gravy’
  13. Add in the finely chopped onions and sauté it well.
  14. Add in the tomato paste and mix well.
  15. Add in the powder spices, salt and a tablespoon of chopped cilantro leaves and mix well.
  16. Add in a cup of water and bring it to a boil
  17. Add in the marinated prawns and mix well.
  18. Cover and cook till the prawns get cooked and the gravy thicken
  19. Garnish with cilantro leaves and keep aside.
  20. In a serving dish, add a layer of the cooked rice.
  21. Put some gravy on the rice.
  22. Garnish with cilantro leaves, caramelised onions and food colour drop
  23. Again place a layer of rice and repeat the same process till your dish is filled up and the rice, gravy and garnishing items are all
  24. Serve hot wit a spoon full of plain yogurt as a side dish.
