Pazham pori is an all time favorite snack of malayalee It is also called Ethakka appam. It is an easy to prepare Kerala snak.

People usually use all purpose flour (മൈദ) for making thi Pazham pori is a Kerala snack made with ripe plantain. It is also called Ethakka appam.

The Ingredients needed to make Pazham pori (Kerala snack):
  1. It’s 3 of Ripe bananas
  2. Prepare 1 Cup of All purpose flour
  3. You need 1 Tablespoon of Rice flour
  4. It’s 1 Tablespoon of Sugar
  5. You need 1 Pinch of Turmeric powder (optional)
  6. You need 3/4 Cup of Water
  7. It’s to taste of Salt
  8. You need as required of Oil to deep fry

Pazham pori is a popular snack from Kerala made with ripe banana Banana slices are coated in an all-purpose flour batter and then deep fried. Also during my stay in Kerala, the hotel where we lived would serve pazham pori at least twice or thrice a week in their complimentary evening snacks menu. Pazham pori recipe: pazham pori or ethakka appam is a Kerala snack where ripe banana slices are dipped in a flour batter and deep fried to get a crispy Pazham pori, ethakka appam, banana fritters, whatever it is called holds a special place in the cuisine of Kerala.

Step to make Pazham pori (Kerala snack):
  1. Peel the plantains and slit it lengthwise.
  2. In a bowl, take all-purpose flour, rice flour, sugar, turmeric powder and salt. Blend it nicely by adding ¾ cup of
  3. Dip the plantain slices in the prepared batter and evenly coat them.
  4. Heat the oil in a deep bottom pan. When it is hot, deep fry the batter coated plantain slices by turning both sides till golden brown.
  5. Serve the pazham pori hot with a cup of tea after draining the excess oil using a paper towel.
  6. Notes - Instead of rice flour, you can use Semolina as an alternative. It is mainly used to keep the pazham pori more crispy. You can also use ‘atta flour’ instead of all purpose flour

Pazham pori aka Ethakka appam or banana (Kerala Plantain) fritters is a traditional evening snack item in Kerala. Its available throughout Kerala and all most all Keralites prepares it the same way. Its simply ripe bananas coated with flour and deep fried in oil. Make this lip smacking Kerala Pazham Pori for the festival of Onam or as a tea time snack on a weekend afternoon. The banana is dipped in a sweetened flour batter and fried till it is golden brown and crispy.
