Instant sweet appam is prepared with a mix of rice flour, wheat flour and semolina. This sweet appam is very easy to make and I could not wait to share this recipe, for this festive season. Appams are served with vegetable stew, kadala curry (chickpea curry), potato stew, vegetable I also make sweet coconut milk that goes very well with appam.

The Ingredients needed to make Sweet Potato Appam:
  1. You need 2 c of sweet potato (steam cooked, peeled, and mashed}
  2. You need 1 c of rice flour
  3. You need 1 tsp of corn starch
  4. Prepare 1 tbsp of Brown sugar
  5. You need 1/4 c of Walnut (powdered)
  6. You need 1/4 c of Pistachio (powdered)
  7. It’s 1 tsp of Nutmeg,freshly grated
  8. It’s 1 tsp of Athimadhuram (Liquorice)
  9. You need 1 pinch of salt
  10. You need 1 tsp of baking soda
  11. Prepare 1/2 c of melted butter

This Instant Sweet Appam using wheat flour is my recent try, it tasted soo good that I am going to make this often may be I will choose the option of using kuzhipaniyaram pan like here. Appam - the Queen of Kerala is a fermented flat bread made out of Rice and Coconut. In Tamil, it is known as Aappam. The Srilankans prefer to call it as appa or hopper.

Step to make Sweet Potato Appam:
  1. Steam cook two large sweet potatoes in a pressure cooker. Peel and mash with a wooden spoon.
  2. Mix the ingredients (except ghee) in a bowl. Make small ball Let it sit at room temperature-about 10 minute Grease the Kuzhi appam maker or dollar pancake maker with ghee
  3. Place balls, one in each mould (kuzhi), drizzle one tsp ghee over each ball, cover and cook over low heat- about 10 minute Turn over, cook covered over low heat-about 10 minute Remove and serve hot. You may glaze the balls with a few drops of honey

This appam doesnt need much work at all, soaking, grinding and fermenting. Hi Aarti, Appam is hard but sweet, didnt brown.
