The Ingredients needed to make Unniyappam~traditional Kerala snack:
  1. You need 2 cup of rice flour
  2. Prepare 5-7 of crushes cardamoms
  3. Prepare 2 of medium sized ripe bananas
  4. It’s 1 cup of jaggery
  5. You need 1 cup of water
  6. Prepare 2 tbsp of coconut flakes
  7. Prepare 1/2 tsp of baking powder
  8. Prepare 1/2 tsp of dry ginger powder
  9. It’s 1 cup of ghee for frying

The traditional way of making unniyappams is deep frying them but I just toasted them as we make for paniyaram to cut down oil….   3. Add the coconut flakes to this bowl.
  4. Mash the bananas to a fine paste in a blender. Mix that with the jaggery
  5. Add the jaggery banana mash to the dry ingredients in part Mix well and adjust water if needed, until you get an idli batter consistency.
  6. Grease appe pan with ghee or oil. Wait for it to heat up a little.
  7. Pour in 1 tbsp of the batter into each cavity. Add more ghee on top. Flip and cook until all sides brown evenly. Don’t overcook. Always do on low flame.
  8. Serve as festival prasad to God or enjoy on a rainy day as hot snack with chai.
