Kosambari or koshambari is a typical south Indian salad made from pulses (split legumes) and seasoned with mustard seed The pulses generally used are split bengal gram (kadale bele in Kannada) and split Green gram (Hesaru bele in Kannada). Kosambari is the most popular salad from the Indian state of Karnataka.

The dish is well known for being easy to prepare and for having a high protein count. Kosambari is a typical Karnataka Style food and is a Udupi special dish. It is also called as Vada Pappu in Andhra.

The Ingredients need to make Kosambari (a South Indian traditional salad) ♥:
  1. Prepare 1/4 cup of chopped carrot
  2. You need 1 cup of Cucumber chopped as you like
  3. It’s 1/2 cup of soaked Moong Lentil
  4. You need 2 teaspoons of chopped Coriander leaves
  5. It’s 1 of chopped green chilli (optional)
  6. You need 1 teaspoon of lemon juice
  7. You need 1/2 teaspoon of olive oil
  8. It’s as per taste of Salt
  9. It’s 1/4 teaspoon of mustard seeds paste
  10. Prepare 1 pinch of asafoetida /hing
  11. You need 1 teaspoon of urad daal (optional)

Kosambari, is a healthy, South Indian moong dal salad made with cucumber, coconut moong dal to celebrate Sri Rama Navami. This is a typical Indian salad which is very simple to prepare and also a very healthy dish. Since my children like the crunchy taste of capsicums very much, I have added it. In traditional recipe capsicum is not added.

Step to make Kosambari (a South Indian traditional salad) ♥:
  1. Soak moong dal for half an hour to one hour and drain off the excess water in a strainer.
  2. In a mixing bowl add strained moong daal, chopped cucumber, chopped chilli and chopped carrot. Mix well together.
  3. Add other ingredients together without chopped Coriander leave Give them a good mix.
  4. Salad is ready. Keep it in a refrigerator for 2 hour Then serve it and garnish with chopped coriander leave
  5. Serve with rice, roti or you can eat plain. Enjoy.
