Tonjiru (豚汁) is a hearty miso soup with pork slices and vegetable Packed with loads of vegetables and a small amount of pork, tonjiru is quite filling but you will be surprised to know the calories in tonjiru are low. It is considered to be a winter dish in Japan but I cant see why we shouldnt have it all year round.

Tonjiru (butajiru) is a variant of Japanese miso soup where the diluted miso is added after simmering small pieces of pork and vegetables in dashi.

  2. You need 1/4 of Japanese radish
  3. You need 1/2 of Potato
  4. You need 200 g of Pork
  5. It’s 1 of Tofu
  6. Prepare 1 cup of Shimeji mushroom
  7. It’s 2 L of Soup stock
  8. You need 3-4 Tbsp of Miso
  9. You need 1 Tbsp of Sesame oil

Tonjiru (or Butajiru) is a kind of Miso Soup with pork and a lot of root vegetables such as Gobo (burdock root) and carrot. Even though it is a Miso soup, Tonjiru tastes very different from ordinary Miso Tonjiru has a distinct pork flavor and strong taste from Gobo. Dont get alarmed because of Gobo, it actually tastes very good.
