The Ingredients need to make Ilish Macher Biryani (Hilsa Fish Biryani - Bengali style):
  1. It’s of Fish Curry -
  2. Prepare 3 pieces of Hilsa fish
  3. Prepare 2 tbsp. of oil
  4. You need 2 tbsp. of ghee
  5. Prepare 2 of onions, sliced
  6. Prepare 1 tbsp. of ginger-garlic paste
  7. You need 1 tsp. of red chilli powder
  8. You need 1/2 tsp. of turmeric powder
  9. Prepare 1/2 tsp. of cumin powder
  10. You need to taste of salt
  11. Prepare 1/2 cup of yogurt, beaten
  12. You need 2-3 of green chilies
  13. Prepare 1 cup of coconut milk
  14. You need of Biryani -
  15. It’s 1 cup of Basmati rice, soaked for 30 minutes
  16. It’s 1-2 tbsp. of ghee / oil
  17. Prepare 1 of cinnamon stick
  18. Prepare 2-3 of green cardamoms
  19. Prepare 4-5 of cloves
  20. Prepare 1-2 of bay leaves
  21. You need 1 of onion, sliced
  22. Prepare of Garnishing -
  23. Prepare 2 tbsp. of fried onions
  24. It’s 2 of slit green chilies
  25. You need 1 tsp. of kewra water
  26. You need 1 tsp. of coriander leaves, chopped
  27. It’s 1 tbsp. of ghee
Step to make Ilish Macher Biryani (Hilsa Fish Biryani - Bengali style):
  1. Marinate the fish with a pinch of salt, turmeric powder and red chilli powder for 10 minute
  2. For the curry - Heat oil and ghee in a pan and saute the onion till light brown. Add the ginger-garlic paste and fry for a minute.
  3. Add all the dry spices and mix well.
  4. Add the beaten curd green chilie Simmer for a minute.
  5. Add the coconut milk and simmer further for a minute.
  6. Add the marinated fish pieces and cook, covered for 4-5 minute Switch off the flame and keep aside.
  7. For the Biryani - Heat the ghee / oil in a separate pan and temper with the whole garam masala and bay leave Add the onion and saute till light brown.
  8. Add the soaked rice and stir fry for 1-2 minute Add 3-4 tbsp. of the gravy,
  9. Salt and 1 1/2 -2 cups water and cook till the rice is done.
  10. Arrange the cooked rice in a pan and then arrange the cooked fish over it. Spread a little of the gravy, ghee, fried onions, green chilies, kewra water coriander leave
  11. Cover with a lid cook in dum on a low flame for 5-10
  12. Serve with the remaining gravy, few green chilies and lime wedges for a sumptuous meal.
