The Ingredients need to make Lentil Ball Gravy:
- Prepare of Lentil Balls
- Prepare 1 of . Toor Dal - 1/2 cup (Wash and soak for 30 minutes)
- You need 2 of . Dry red chilli - 4
- It’s 3 of . Fennel seeds - 1/2 tsp
- Prepare 4 of . Curry leaves - 5 to 6
- Prepare 5 of . Salt - as needed
- It’s 6 of . Onion - 1/4 cup chopped
- You need 7 of . Coconut grated - 1 tbsp (Optional)
- It’s of For Gravy
- You need 1 of . Tamarind - 1 lemon size (soak in warm water for 15 to 20 minutes)
- It’s 2 of . Turmeric - 1 tsp
- It’s 3 of . Chilli powder - 1 tbsp
- You need 4 of . Coriander powder - 2 tbsp
- It’s 5 of . Salt - as needed
- It’s 6 of . Coriander leaves - for garnish
- You need of To Grind
- You need 1 of . Coconut - 1/3 cup grated
- You need 2 of . Fennel - 1 tsp
- It’s 3 of . Cumin - 1/2 tsp
- Prepare 4 of . Shallot onion - 1
- Prepare 5 of . Water - 1/4 cup
- Prepare of To Temper
- It’s 1 of . Oil - 2 tbsp (preferred gingelly oil)
- You need 2 of . Tempering papad - 1 ball (optional)
- It’s 3 of . Methi seeds - 3/4 tsp
- Prepare 4 of . Curry leaves - few
- Prepare 5 of . Shallots - 5 cut into cubes
- Prepare 6 of . Tomato - 1 chopped finely
- It’s 7 of . Mustard - 1/2 tsp
- You need 8 of . Garlic - 10 sliced
After adding lentil balls, never stir the gravy till all lentil balls float on the surface.
The gravy will get thickened by the small amount of lentils dissolved in gravy.
The balls do not break or dissolve fully.
These red lentil-bulgur balls seasoned with parsley and lemon juice are a classic Turkish appetizer enjoyed my vegans and meat-eaters alike.
Step to make Lentil Ball Gravy:
- To prepare lentil balls grind the soaked toor dal with red chilli, curry leaves,fennel seeds and salt to coarse paste. Dont pour the dal soaked Keep this for late use.
- Add chopped onion, grated coconut to thi Mix thoroughly and make it into small balls and keep aside.
For this proportions it gives around 10 ball
- Heat gingelly oil in kadai add mustard seeds, tempering papad, methi seeds and curry leave Let the mustard to temper. Once done add shallots and garlic. Saute until garlic changes to light golden colour.
- Add chopped tomatoes to this and cook until it turns mushy.
- Now add chilli powder, turmeric powder and coriander powder with some salt. Saute a bit.
- Squeeze the tamarind water and add thi Add the soaked dal water with thi Add another cup of water to thi Close with lid and cook in high flame for 8 to 10 minute
- Meanwhile grind coconut with fennel seeds and cumin seeds to nice paste.
- Add this to the boiling gravy and let it cook another 5 minutes in medium flame.
- This is the time to add the lentil ball Add slowly one by one. Dont pour everything at one time. Dont stir the balls, it may get break. Let it cook until balls started to float on the top. If you are not sure you can steam the lentil balls before adding in steamer or idli maker.
- Adjust the salt and switch off the flame once the balls starts floating. Garnish with coriander leave Serve hot with steamed rice.
