The Ingredients needed to make South Indian Style- Snake Gourd with Lentils:
  1. You need 2 cups of snake goard, peeled and chopped small
  2. You need 1/4 cup of chana dal, soaked for 30 minutes
  3. You need 1 of onion finely chopped
  4. It’s 1 of chopped tomato (optional)
  5. Prepare 2 of green chillies
  6. It’s 1 sprig of Curry leaves
  7. Prepare 1 tbsp of chopped ginger
  8. You need 1 tsp of mustard seeds
  9. It’s 2 pinches of asafoetida
  10. It’s 1/4 tsp of turmeric powder
  11. It’s to taste of Salt
  12. You need 3 tbsp of coconut oil
  13. You need For of grinding
  14. You need 1/4 cup of fresh grated coconut
  15. It’s 1 tsp of cumin seeds
  16. Prepare 1/2 tsp of whole black pepper
  17. It’s 2 of dry red chillies
  18. Prepare 1 sprig of curry leaves
Step to make South Indian Style- Snake Gourd with Lentils:
  1. In a pan heat up 2 tbsp coconut oil, add mustard seeds when it splutter add asafoetida, chopped ginger, onion, green and curry leave
  2. Add chopped tomato.
  3. Fry just for a few minutes, soaked and drained chana dal. Cover and simmer.
  4. When dal is half cooked add turmeric powder and chopped snake gourds along with the salt. Cook on medium heat with the lid on.
  5. Grind the ingredients given for grinding into a fine paste.
  6. When snake gourd is cooked add the coconut-spice paste, mix well.
  7. Cook for another few minute Switch off the flame, drizzle remaining coconut oil on top.
  8. Ready to serve
